I took middle schoolers to Quebec 3 times and I can't even LOOK at a bus anymore without being sure I will become nauseated while listening to Pirates of the Caribbean over and over and over. When I student taught, I took kindergarteners to all sorts of field trippy places. I remember myself coming down with something at a museum and just feeling SO AWFUL for that whole day and never feeling like I had enough to drink. I always wondered if I might have left someone behind at that museum.

It always makes me laugh when parents get "so excited" to chaperone a field trip. Field trip veterans know the trembling that occurs when you wake up that morning and know you have to herd them around and keep them all safe and happy. My mother chaperoned once and that was the end for her. Of course, that was in the days when kids would pile into parents cars and no one thought about car insurance.JoAnnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10548653968066971599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3475732294480121490.post-62456211041369064882010-08-26T19:25:45.484-04:002010-08-26T19:25:45.484-04:00Hilarious! I secretly love them! Ahhh. Thanks for the comments everyone! Yes, the interesting/informative/historic/space-tastic features of any field trip destination are most definitely lost on those of us doing the herding!

And good luck tomorrow Terri!Sarah Garbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17458163748426473662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3475732294480121490.post-54712109026568175132010-08-25T14:45:15.399-04:002010-08-25T14:45:15.399-04:00I realized after I volunteered to help herd a grou...I realized after I volunteered to help herd a group of elementary school students through the Space Center in Florida that interest in seeing the museum/park/attraction is outweighed by the craziness of trying to manage the kids. And you don't get to see anything yourself. I've had someone tell me that I am "high strung" on these trips. However, given the anxiety levels of someone who is actively trying to prevent DEATH at every turn (who knows where death lurks?? NOT ON MY WATCH), I think I'm pretty calm!justjanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15998955560025030231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3475732294480121490.post-77417266815522898832010-08-24T21:12:20.126-04:002010-08-24T21:12:20.126-04:00Hilarious. I once babysat four girls, all under the age of eight, and nearly had a nervous breakdown at the tender age of 16. I don't think I could handle being a teacher. A hilarious look into when a non-parent gets thrust into the cauldron that moms and dads live in every day, X 24. I'm sure the moms will laugh their heads off.
